I found this video very interesting and it made a lot of relevant points. As a student I do think we have a right to know how the teacher performs. The amount of money we are paying seems like a legitimate reason for us to have this right. A professor can make all the difference in whether or not you succeed. Of course, the majority of responsibility lies within the student and if they apply themselves, but I think a professor can have a huge impact on your education. When you have a professor who is passionate about the subject and actually has some experience behind what they are teaching, then this will give us experience and knowledge that pertains to our profession.

I think the key statement that was made in this video, is that the teacher is the product and the student is the consumer and the student should ultimately be able to review what they are paying for. For example, most of us have used Amazon before and I am pretty sure I am not the only one who automatically reads the reviews of the product before buying it. I base many of my purchases on whether or not they have a good review and these are usually cheap purchases, so when we pay thousands of dollars it only makes sense that we should be able to review what we are paying for. I think it should be standard with universities that this information be provided. I also am aware that there will be times when we get a professor that is not that great, in the WOW program we don’t have a choice of who our professors are, so I have had both positive and negative experiences.  I do know that we get evaluations at the end of each semester for the professors and I would hope that the universities look at these carefully and if they see a pattern with the same professor then it is their responsibility to handle that in an ethical way.

I am also aware that students may project negativity on social media toward a professor if they have a personnel issue with them, so from the professors view, I can understand that they shouldn’t be evaluated based on sites such as ratemyprofesssor.com, because anyone can write anything about someone on such sites. As I said before if there are continuous negative reviews and evaluations from the students about the same teacher then it would be the universities responsibility to look at that professor and take appropriate action because for what we pay each semester, I believe it is the schools obligation to provide us with high quality teachers.
